These images are taken from a book called The Damn Interior: In the Shades of Mark Linkous (2016): a sequence of 73 colour and 16 b&w photographs, interspersed with fragments of poetic text, that together constitute an artistic exploration of places associated with the late musician Mark Linkous. These locations, in which Linkous lived, worked and died, very evidently suffused his art, and the images and text that comprise this project present my response to a journey in and around these places – in Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee – under the guiding spirit of Linkous's music.

Many more images from the project can be seen on the original Tumblr blog. The title of each image (given in the book and the blog but not on this site) is the grid reference code giving the location where the image was made.
